Jarlette Health Services Meadow Park Chatham is seeking a Life Enrichment Aide to implement and communicate a schedule of recreation and social activities for residents, including evenings and weekends, while collaborating with families and the care team.

The successful candidate will assess resident interests, contribute to care plans, and promote independence and well-being, adhering to health and safety standards and maintaining team communication.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or gerontology is asset; or enrolled in related program.
  • Experience in recreational or social programming to fulfill the role requirements.
  • Experience in geriatric rehabilitation or long-term care is an asset.
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education.
  • Must be flexible, innovative and creative.
  • Must be computer literate.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and communicates a schedule of recreation and social activities for residents.

Meadow Park Chatham is a fully accredited long term care home in Chatham, Ontario and serves 99 residents. Chatham is the urban centre of Chatham-Kent, a large municipality in Southwestern Ontario located between Windsor (approximately 80 km to the west) and London (approximately 115 km to the east). It is known for its fertile farmland, a diverse economy of manufacturing and agriculture, and rich history, including its role in the Underground Railroad.

Join our team as a Life Enrichment Aide!

Reporting to the Life Enrichment Coordinator, the Life Enrichment Aide implements and communicates to all residents and families a schedule of recreation and social activities that are offered during days, evenings and weekends. This involves assessing resident interests and abilities and incorporating resident and family input. This role also contributes to resident care plans, quality improvement initiatives, the promotion of resident independence and well-being, and staying current with best practices in activity programming. The Life Enrichment Aide must also ensure resident safety by adhering to all health and safety legislation (such as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act) and maintain effective communication with the interdisciplinary team and residents' families.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university is an asset; or
  • Are enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021, ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation ss. 73/22 (1); or
  • Experience in another recreational or social programming capacity that would provide the related skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfill the role.
  • Experience in Geriatric rehabilitation or Long-Term Care is an asset
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education
  • Must be flexible, innovative and creative
  • Must be computer literate
