Midland Transport is currently seeking a Leadhand to be based at our Dieppe Terminal. Leadhand is responsible for executing the daily dock plan as directed by supervisors while ensuring efficient, safe, and productive dock operations. In this role you will promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures, ensuring that safety measures are in place and followed at all times. You will also plan and coordinate freight loads to maximize load factor, optimize bill counts, and support overall operational efficiency while maintaining service excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a forklift to safely load and unload trailers.
  • Communicate load status and upcoming shipments to Dispatch.
  • Lead and direct a team of Freight Handlers by assigning and coordinating daily tasks.
  • Train and coach employees on safe work practices and proper loading techniques.
  • Monitor temperature-controlled trailers to ensure freight integrity and compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain freight handling records and shift performance reports.
  • Ensure dock operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a warehouse, dock, transportation, or freight operations environment.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of dock operations, freight handling, and load planning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using transportation or warehouse management systems are an asset.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle freight as required and work in a physically demanding environment.
