Sun Life, a leading Canadian insurer, seeks an Underwriting Consultant in a hybrid role. You’ll analyze medical and financial data to certify Life and Critical Illness applications, applying guidelines and professional judgement.

Engage with reinsurers and internal partners to support advisors and clients, ensuring clear communication and rigorous risk assessment. Qualified candidates have 7+ years in Individual Life underwriting, ALU certification, and bilingual capabilities (French/English)

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter.
• Knowledge of life and critical illness signing authorities.
• Bilingualism (French, English) required for Quebec interactions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze medical, personal, and financial data to assess life/CI insurance eligibility.
• Risk classification using underwriting guidelines and professional judgement.
• Make timely decisions within authority limits; refer cases as needed.
• Collaborate with reinsurers for complex outcomes.
• Engage internal partners to deliver advisor- and client-centered experiences.
• Communicate decisions clearly to advisors and physicians when required.
• Document decisions with clear rationale and support materials.
