Sun Life in Canada is seeking a Director, Advanced Underwriting. You’ll lead analytical decision-making on life and critical illness risk, partnering with product, management and reinsurers to deliver sound, competitive outcomes. This hybrid role offers mentorship, continuous learning and exposure to high‑impact cases.

You’ll guide a high-performing team, shape risk strategy, contribute to advisor relations and drive client-first service while balancing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
• Bilingualism (French, English) for cross-Canada interactions
• ALU certificate and ongoing education toward FALU/FLMI designs

Responsabilités

• Analyze insurance applications and evidence of insurability
• Apply holistic underwriting expertise across medical, financial and lifestyle factors
• Negotiate decisions with reinsurers per treaties and rules
• Explain and communicate decisions to advisors and clients' physicians
• Build relationships with leaders, distribution teams and advisors
• Provide mentorship to other underwriters
• Attend High Net Worth reviews and contribute to team development
