Job summary

WaterSMART Solutions | A Hazen Company in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our team as a discipline lead for water and wastewater projects across Canada and the United States.

You will provide technical leadership on I&C standards, project delivery approaches, and OT/automation evolution, working with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver safe and compliant systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required, Master’s preferred.
7–10 years of instrumentation & controls design experience for water and wastewater facilities.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain reciprocity within a defined timeframe.
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA and related standards.
Experience developing P&IDs, specifications, control system architectures and construction documents.
Ability to communicate I&C requirements clearly to teams and clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead I&C design on medium to large water and wastewater projects.
Develop control narratives, architecture diagrams, schematics and installation details.
Prepare cost estimates and participate in value analysis.
Lead project coordination meetings and manage scope, budget and timelines.
Oversee field reviews, FAT/SAT, startup, and commissioning activities.
Support business development with proposals and client meetings.
