Job summary

Xanadu is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to transform our data pipelines into a cohesive data platform. You will collaborate with hardware researchers, data scientists, and finance analysts to define data flows and build the infrastructure that enables data-driven decisions at every level.

This hands-on role is the first dedicated data engineer at Xanadu, offering the opportunity to build a data team as the practice grows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data engineering, with leadership experience.
• Experience building and scaling cloud data platforms from scratch.
• Proficient in Python packaging, testing and CI.
• Experience with data lake/lakehouse architectures (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi).
• Hands-on with modern data stack tooling (dbt) and orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
• Strong SQL skills and infra-as-code experience.
• Ability to drive standards across teams and collaborate with R&D or science groups.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain a robust cloud data infrastructure serving multiple teams.
• Own data architecture: schema, materialization, performance.
• Consolidate data workflows across R&D, manufacturing, and analytics.
• Define data models with researchers and analysts for correct storage and queryability.
• Establish data governance: lineage, cataloging, access control, quality monitoring.
• Drive code quality, testing, reliability and observability.
• Balance new development with platform improvements and debt reduction.
• Mentor engineers as the data practice grows.
