Job summary

Project X Ltd. in Toronto seeks a Senior Data Platform Engineer to evolve an enterprise data platform. The role blends software engineering, DevOps and reliability with a deep understanding of data systems, in an AWS environment including Snowflake, Matillion and Salesforce.

You will shape the approach, build proofs of concept, evaluate tools for observability, orchestration and lineage, and drive production readiness with a pragmatic bias toward usable, well-documented solutions.

Qualifications

• Hands-on senior data platform or software engineering experience with production systems.
• Strong programming and problem-solving skills in Python or similar, SQL, APIs and automated testing.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms, data pipelines, orchestration, data quality and warehouse operations.
• Practical DevOps experience with CI/CD, deployment automation and environment management.
• Reliability mindset: diagnose failures, improve monitoring and design recovery approaches.

Responsibilities

• Assess the current platform with stakeholders to identify reliability, visibility and workflow gaps.
• Recommend practical approaches to data observability, orchestration and lineage.
• Evaluate tools and services against functional needs, security, cost and operations.
• Design and build focused proofs of concept with clear success criteria for production decisions.
• Develop reusable software, integrations and automation to improve platform reliability and developer experience.
• Apply software engineering and DevOps practices including version control, automated testing and CI/CD.
• Help define monitoring, alerting, failure recovery and incident-response practices.
• Collaborate to establish ownership, runbooks and production readiness for new capabilities.
