Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is seeking a Laundry Aide to join the Opal Ridge Enhanced Care team. The role involves sorting laundry, operating washers and dryers, delivering clean laundry to resident areas, and maintaining a clean laundry environment.

Applicants should have a High School diploma or equivalent, knowledge of infection prevention, and experience with commercial laundry equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Knowledge of basic garment and linen care.
  • Operation of commercial laundry equipment.
  • Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check as applicable.
  • First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset.
  • Experience in retirement living or long-term care facility is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on weight and soil; selects proper wash formulas and cycles.
  • Operates washing machine; loads soiled laundry and unloads clean laundry.
  • Operates dryer and extractor; loads clean laundry and sets appropriate dryness.
  • Sorts clean laundry into baskets; tracks linen quotas and places on carts.
  • Picks up and delivers clean laundry to resident areas using carts.
  • Removes garments with tears/holes for repairs and notifies designated personnel.
  • Sweeps and mops laundry area; cleans sorting tables with disinfectant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; stands for extended periods; reads documentation.
  • Bends and lifts up to 50 lbs; reads and views documents in paper and on screen.

We are searching for a Laundry Aide to join our Opal Ridge Enhanced Care team based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia .

About The Opportunity
  • Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on the type of laundry and how soiled the laundry is, and selects the proper formula and cycles used in washing and drying
  • Operates washing machine using proper washing formulas; loads soiled laundry into the machine, sets dial so wash cycle is appropriate for type of load being washed and unloads clean laundry
  • Operates dryer and extractor; loads clean, wet laundry into the machine, sets dials so the laundry is dried or damp-dried appropriately and unloads the machine
  • Sorts clean laundry into appropriate baskets or racks; counts linen needed for each area as per linen quota and puts on cart; notes name tags on resident clothing and puts on correct rack
  • Picks up soiled laundry and delivers clean laundry to resident areas within the facility using laundry carts
  • Checks laundry for tears, holes, missing buttons, etc. and forwards clothing needing repairs to the facility designate
  • Sweeps and mops the floors in the laundry area and cleans sorting tables with disinfectant.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Standing for extended periods of time, as required
  • Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Bending and lifting to 50 lbs
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You
  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
  • Knowledge of basic garment and linen care
  • Operation of commercial laundry equipment
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
  • First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in a retirement living or long-term care facility an asset
