Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Bedford, Nova Scotia is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for the Adeline Hall Enhanced Care project. You will perform general maintenance, repairs, assemble/move furniture, and support preventive maintenance programs for facilities and equipment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 1–2 years in construction or building maintenance, knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S, and strong English. Certifications in trades are assets.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Advanced English required; other languages are an asset.
  • Trades certifications are assets.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading is an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment and grounds.
  • Performs general repair work on structures and equipment and responds to maintenance requests.
  • Assembles, moves, delivers, sets up and picks up furniture and equipment.
  • Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment and supports the preventive maintenance program.
  • Assists in training staff on safety practices and participates in emergency drills.
  • Follows health and safety policies to ensure a safe workplace.

In anticipation of opening in October 2026, we are searching for a full-time Maintenance Worker to join our new Adeline Hall Enhanced Care team based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds
  • Performs general repair work on structures and equipment (responds to maintenance requests)
  • Assembles, moves, delivers, sets up and picks up furniture and equipment
  • Performs general repair work on structures, patches & paints any damaged walls
  • Assists the Plant, Building & Safety Manager in the inspection of buildings, grounds and equipment; carries out preventive maintenance program actions
  • Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and to process work orders
  • Requests necessary materials, supplies, parts and tools required and maintains control of storage and use
  • Performs and documents internal and external inspections and audits
  • Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and processes work orders through the same program
  • Participates in emergency (disaster) plan and mock disaster exercises
  • Works in conjunction with Shannex fire and safety policies to help train staff in fire safety techniques; schedules fire drills and evaluates performance effectiveness
  • Takes every precaution that is reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees, residents and all others in the workplace
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You
  • A High School Diploma or completion of equivalent education
  • 1-2 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Advanced Proficiency in English required, other languages considered an asset
  • Certification in Carpentry, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumbing or Electrical trades considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading considered an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
