Job summary

The University of Alberta is seeking a maintenance technician to perform a broad range of groundskeeping duties on multiple campuses in Edmonton, including North Campus, South Campus, and Campus Saint-Jean. The role involves outdoor work throughout the day and requires use of heavy, light, and small equipment as well as hand tools for landscaping, irrigation, and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy, light and small equipment, hand tools and perform manual labour.
• Maintain and construct grounds including hard/soft landscaping, pond maintenance, furnishings, signs, snow removal, irrigation installation and repair, pruning.
• Assist with special events setup and breakdowns, and daily repairs/maintenance of equipment used for each task listed above.

This position has a term length of1 year plus 1 day.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton, South Campus Edmonton, and Campus Saint-Jean.

The position performs a vast number of duties using heavy, light and small equipment, as well as hand tools and manual labour. These duties include the maintenance and construction of (but are not limited to);

• hard/soft landscaping
• pond maintenance
• furnishings
• signs
• snow removal
• irrigation installation and repair
• pruning
• special event set up and take downs
• miscellaneous task and daily repairs/maintenance on equipment used for each task listed above

Due to the array of tasks that are required to be completed daily, majority of the day is spent outside of the department. It is crucial that operators are alert, use caution and have clear visuals of all hazards and safety concerns that can
occur when working within large crowds and onsite traffic. The position also calls for quick adaptability and responsiveness to last minute requests or situations that may arise.
