Job description

GEI Consultants Inc. is seeking a full-time Landscape Designer/ CAD Technician for our ecological restoration, arborist/forestry services, and natural heritage system design projects. The landscape designer would work collaboratively with the natural science and engineering team to prepare grading and planting plans for natural channels, wetland, grassland, woodland, and wildlife habitats, including habitats for species at risk. The landscape designer would also work with the arborist/forestry staff to prepare Tree Inventory Preservation Plan drawings. Our environmental design work contributes to healthier cities and communities, where people benefit from the ecosystem services provided by nature. GEI’s ecological restoration team includes expertise in terrestrial and aquatic ecology, species at risk, landscape architecture, climate change, Indigenous engagement, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, and fluvial geomorphology.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with natural scientists, arborists, foresters, engineers, and fluvial geomorphologists to provide ecological restoration services, including:

• Produce conceptual designs and technical and tender-ready drawings;
• Prepare terrestrial and aquatic habitat grading and planting plans;
• Conduct tree inventory surveys;
• Prepare tree inventory preservation plan drawings;
• Conduct site visits to examine existing conditions, in-progress construction, as-built conditions, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Design, or equivalent;
• 2 years+ experience in planting design and natural features grading preferred;
• Knowledge of native vegetation communities and flora an asset;
• Experience in tree inventory surveys, tree preservation plan drawings, and reporting considered an asset;
• Experience working in and around watercourses considered an asset;
• Experience in construction and contract administration;
• Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil3D and Office required (formal training in AutoCAD an asset);
• Competency in ArcGIS an asset;
• Experience with BluBeam Revu an asset;
• Creative, self-directed, and motivated to gain new knowledge and skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and time management skills;
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle access (required).
