Job summary

Simon Fraser University is seeking a Labourer to support Buildings & Grounds on campus. The role involves moving furniture/equipment, event setup/tear-down, waste management, snow/ice control, and general campus support in a safe, customer-focused environment.

The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable and team-oriented, able to work outdoors in varying weather. This temporary assignment ends six months from start date; two positions are available, and LiUNA Local 1611 membership is expected

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in areas such as operating equipment or general construction.
  • Valid BC driver's license (Class 5) and basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

Through its Labourer, Carpenter, Painter, and Teamster teams, the department supports grounds maintenance, campus moves, construction and maintenance activities, waste management, and general campus upkeep. About the Role

The Labourer performs a variety of physically demanding duties that support the safe, efficient, and effective operation of SFU’s campuses. As part of the Buildings & Grounds team, the Labourer assists with furniture and equipment moves, event set-up and tear-down, waste and recycling collection, snow and ice control, material handling, and general campus support services. Working in a collaborative, customer-focused environment, the Labourer helps maintain clean, accessible, and welcoming spaces for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, service excellence, and teamwork.

The ideal candidate is a reliable, safety-conscious team player who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in contributing to a clean, functional, and welcoming campus environment. They demonstrate a strong work ethic, a customer service mindset, and the ability to perform physically demanding work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions. The successful candidate is adaptable, dependable, and able to work collaboratively while managing competing priorities. They communicate effectively, follow safe work practices, and are committed to providing responsive, high-quality service to the SFU community.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in areas such as operating equipment or general construction, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC driver's license (Class 5) and basic computer skills required.

  • Proven ability to perform physically demanding work safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and able to work in all weather conditions, including snow and ice control activities.

  • An additional 20% pay in lieu of fringe benefits
  • After 12 continuous months without a break in their appointment, pay in lieu of fringe benefits is increased to 30%
Additional Information

The assignment end date is 6 months from start date.

There are 2 positions available.
