UBC Facilities provides comprehensive facilities maintenance, operations and renovation services for lands and buildings owned by the University of British Columbia. The Municipal Services group is responsible for providing waste management services, soft and hard landscape services, as well as moving and general labour services for all of the Vancouver campus. This position works within the landscape crew; a team engaged in the ongoing maintenance and periodic renewal of lawns, shrub beds and trees of 172 hectares of core campus grounds and gardens. The Labourer performs physical work, operates specialized equipment, performs maintenance work in the landscape crew; working within relevant safety regulations and in the safest, simplest, sustainable and most efficient manner. This position may be required to work with other crews outside of Soft Landscape as needed.
The Labourer 3 determines the most efficient and effective way to operate equipment to perform work; incorrect decisions generally result in minor delays.
The Labourer 3 reports to the Manager, Municipal Services and receives daily work assignments and directions from the Sub-Head Landscape Technologist or Head Landscape Technologist. The Labourer 3 works from oral and written instructions and according to established departmental policies and procedures.
The Labourer 3 monitors the work of a group of labourers in an assigned area to ensure work is being performed correctly and in a timely fashion.
