Job summary

Alberta Precision Lab (APL) in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to provide high quality service within the clinical laboratory. You will handle procurement, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, reporting results and ensuring a safe workflow.

The role involves both acute and outpatient settings, with on-site training in phlebotomy; union HSAA, Regular Part Time, 0.80 FTE, with a shift pattern including Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Equivalency defined as completion of an MLT/CLXT program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; phlebotomy training/rotation.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high` school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in blood and ECG collections.
