Job summary

PTI Transformers LP in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is seeking an L1 Controls Test Technician to perform quality checks on transformer devices and energized control circuits under supervision. You will assist with bench testing, wiring checks, and test setups to verify performance and safety.

You will record results, help troubleshoot non-conformances, and support wiring and calculations for control circuits while upholding PTI Quality standards and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tool use.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as a multimeter is an asset.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read drawings, sketches, schematics, and engineering specs.
  • Good verbal and written communication; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Bench test transformer devices prior to installation and record data.
  • Assist with wiring checks and test setup for various measurements.
  • Record test results per requirements and troubleshoot control circuits.
  • Support wiring with conduit, wire terminations, and basic changes.
  • Perform basic calculations for control circuits and understand relay logic.
  • Ensure safety and proper use of PPE; serve as company representative during customer visits.
  • Maintain PCR book in line with PTI Quality standards and meet production timelines.

Job description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Controls Department, the L1 Controls Test Technician is responsible to perform quality checks on various devices required on the transformer and quality checks on energized control circuits, under supervision and guidance.

Role Responsibilities
  • Bench testing transformer devices prior to installation and recording the data in the PCR book.
  • Assisting with point-to-point wiring checks.
  • Assisting with test set up for fan and pump loss measurement.
  • Assisting with test set up for staged cooling verification.
  • Assisting with test set up for hot spot setting.
  • Assisting with test set up for LTC operation (Local/Remote operation, paralleling, master/follower/independent, and regulation operation).
  • Assisting with test set up for CT pre-test on the cover, on the tank and on the active assembly.
  • Measuring, recording test results according to specified requirements for each test performed.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting control circuits when non-conformance is encountered.
  • Assisting Wiring Assembler with conduit installation, wire installation, wire terminations as required.
  • Performing wiring changes as encountered during quality checks of control circuits using proper techniques.
  • Performing basic calculations required for control circuit checks.
  • Having a fundamental understanding of logic program for various control relays.
  • Ensuring all equipment is utilized in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ensuring all safety equipment is in working condition and used as required to safely complete the job
  • Serving as a representative for the company during customer visits to witness functional controls test
  • Ensuring PCR book is signed and filled out in accordance to PTI Quality standards.
  • Ensuring that tasks are executed safely, following all safety protocols and procedures to protect the employees and the transformer.
  • Utilizing effective time management to meet production deadlines.
Job Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tool use
  • Basic knowledge of test equipment (multimeter), is an asset
  • Computer proficiency, knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Experience in testing of control wiring, is an asset
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn how to read, understand, and interpret drawings, sketches, schematic interpretations and engineering specification blueprints
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Basic mathematics knowledge for controls (ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals)
