Job summary

Irving Oil is seeking a Café Kitchen Steward on a fixed-term contract at the Saint John Refinery. The role focuses on sanitation, inventory support, and daily food service activities to sustain a clean, safe, and branded environment.

The position runs 6:00am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with a term anticipated to last until November 13, 2026. Successful candidates will demonstrate reliability and a team-focused attitude in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dishwasher and hand-wash stations.
  • Wash and sanitize kitchen areas, storage spaces, tables, tools, and knives.
  • Store clean wares properly and return items to storage; send soiled items for re-scrubbing.
  • Empty and manage trash, sweep and mop all kitchen and serving areas.
  • Break down cardboard and dispose of waste in the utility room.
  • Record daily logs and report maintenance needs to the manager.
  • Develop positive working relationships and support team goals.
  • Adhere to quality standards and operational procedures.

Job description

As a Café Kitchen Steward - Fixed Term, you will support Irving Oil's Café operations at our Saint John Refinery location by maintaining clean, safe, and organized kitchen, storage, and service areas while contributing to a positive and branded employee experience. Your goal will be to ensure the efficient operation of the Café through proper sanitation, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and support of daily food service activities. Your success will depend on your ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and contribute to a collaborative team culture that delivers exceptional service.

This is a Fixed Term contract position anticipated to last until Nov 13, 2026.

Hours of operation for this position range are between 6:00am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Your Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dishwashing machine, hand-wash stations, and pot-scrubbing station
  • Wash and sanitize kitchen and storage areas, tables, tools, knives, shelving, and equipment
  • Ensure clean wares are stored in appropriate areas; pull and stack cleaned items and return them to their proper storage locations. Send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing
  • Empty, clean, and maintain trash cans
  • Clean, sweep, and mop all areas in the kitchen and serving area
  • Break down cardboard boxes and remove all garbage to the utility room for disposal
  • Record daily logs required within your area of responsibility
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the manager
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others and support the team in achieving common goals
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and operational standards
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested
Your Skills

Your Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the food service industry is an asset, preferably 3-5 years

The expected salary range for this position is $37,440 - $44,928. Placement within the range will be based on relevant experience, qualifications and skills.
