Job summary

Masterfeeds seeks a Junior Millhand in Alberta to support the Mill Operator in daily feed production. This entry-level role offers hands-on training in safe operation of equipment and adherence to HACCP and quality standards.

You will weigh ingredients, assist with batching, and help with housekeeping, shipping, and loading. Candidates must be physically capable, legally eligible to work in Canada, and able to rotate day/afternoon/night shifts.

Qualifications

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Basic mechanical skills and computer literacy.
  • Capable of performing physical job duties (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, climbing, etc.).
  • Able to work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-up.
  • English communication (verbal/written).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Able to work day/afternoon/nights shift rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Act as second to the Mill Operator on shift and assist with safe and efficient operation of feed manufacturing systems and equipment.
  • Accurately weigh and meter all hand-added medications and other ingredients for each batch according to approved formulas and production requirements.
  • Support batching, mixing and production activities to help ensure feed is manufactured accurately, efficiently and to quality standards.
  • Complete and maintain required production, inventory and HACCP documentation as assigned.
  • Perform housekeeping inside the mill, maintaining a clean, organized and sanitary work environment.
  • Assist with receiving, shipping, packaging, loading and unloading activities in accordance with plant requirements.
  • Report equipment issues promptly and assist with routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with company policies, feed quality standards and sanitation requirements.
  • Assist plant personnel as needed and complete other duties as assigned by the leadership team.

Requirements
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Basic mechanical skills and computer literacy
  • Capable of performing physical job duties (may include: lifting to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling and twisting safely)
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE), must be able to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions (may include: heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-up
  • Understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work day/afternoon/nights shift rotation
Preferred
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or agricultural setting
  • Trained in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
