Job summary

New Horizon Co-op is seeking a Journeyperson Scratch Baker for our Downtown Food Store in Grande Prairie, Alberta. You will prepare a variety of baked goods, operate bakery equipment safely, and ensure product quality from start to finish.

Ideal candidates hold a Red Seal Journeyperson Baker Certification with 2–3 years of professional baking experience in a commercial or retail setting, and are able to work early mornings on weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Baker Certification (or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of professional baking experience in a commercial or retail setting.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong understanding of baking techniques, ingredient functions, and food safety regulations.
  • Comfortable with physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Available to work early mornings on weekdays and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Prepare, mix, and bake a variety of products including breads, rolls, buns, pastries, cookies, and specialty items according to established recipes.
  • Operate commercial bakery equipment including mixers, proofers, ovens, and slicers safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and consistency throughout the baking process.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment, including daily sanitation of bakery areas.
  • Rotate inventory and remove outdated or unsellable products to minimize waste.
  • Perform additional duties as required

What you’ll do:
