The Corporate Services Division of the City of Swift Current is seeking a qualified IT Technician to join our team. This role is essential in supporting the IT department's efforts to provide efficient and reliable software and hardware services to City staff and facilities. The IT Technician will ensure the smooth operation of network infrastructure, assist staff with IT needs, and contribute to various IT projects aimed at improving operations. Reporting to the Director of Technology & Innovation, the technician will also ensure systems comply with City and regulatory standards, enhancing the security and reliability of IT services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on-site and remote technical support for hardware, software, and network issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems to minimize downtime.
• Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals.
• Assist with onboarding and offboarding staff, including setting up user accounts and IT equipment.
• Implement policies and procedures for data access.
• Monitor network for suspicious activity and report findings to Network Administrators.
• Manage software patches and updates.
• Evaluate and provision mobile communication hardware.
• Manage procedures for lost, stolen, or malfunctioning mobile devices.
• Support city-wide IT projects such as software rollouts, system upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
• Document IT processes and procedures.
• Research emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
• Promote best practices and acceptable use of equipment.
• Handle warranty claims for hardware and software.
• Mentor IT summer students.
• Track inventory for purchases and equipment reallocation.
• Dispose of obsolete equipment following proper data removal procedures.
• Test and evaluate new equipment.
