Job description

Position Overview

Working directly with the Controller, the Intermediate Accountant, Revenue & Receivables owns REV’s accounts receivable and revenue accounting, from customer invoicing and collections through to revenue recognition and month-end reporting. The role begins with full ownership of Accounts Receivable and is designed to grow, with structured development, into broader financial accounting responsibilities including deferred revenue, month-end close and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is earlier in their accounting career and motivated to grow into a larger role within the Finance team, taking on additional financial accounting and reporting responsibilities over time. REV supports the ongoing professional development of its team members, including those interested in pursuing an accounting designation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full accounts receivable cycle, including creating invoices in the ERP system, ensuring timely collection of outstanding amounts, and processing all types of customer payments.
  • Assist the controller with performing credit and reference checks for new customers.
  • Maintain the AR aging, lead follow-up on overdue accounts, and report on collections and cash receipts to support cash flow forecasting.
  • Reconcile the AR subledger to the general ledger monthly and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare revenue cut-off and deferred revenue schedules, working with Project Managers to align revenue recognition with project progress and billing.
  • Prepare period ending accruals.
  • Prepare bank and balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset tracking.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting, including preparation of balance sheet and income statement schedules and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Analyze revenue, project margins, costs and financial commitments to support forecasting and management reporting.
  • Support year-end requirements and the external review engagement, including preparation of working papers.
  • Document AR and revenue processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automation within the ERP system.
  • Provide backup coverage for other accounting functions to ensure continuity during absences.
  • Complete other ad hoc reporting and analysis as required.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by your manager to ensure REV’s goals and objectives are met.
  • Performs all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in REV’s Safety and Human Resources Policy Manual.
  • Performs duties according to REV’s quality system procedures and work instructions.
Qualifications
  • 2 - 4 years’ progressive accounting experience, including accounts receivable and exposure to month-end close and general ledger reconciliations is required.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance or a related field from an accredited Canadian institution is required.
  • A CPA or other professional accounting designation, or progress toward one, is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), including revenue recognition principles.
  • Previous experience working with an ERP system, and knowledge of Microsoft NAV is an asset.
  • Experience with project-based revenue recognition, ideally in an engineering, manufacturing or construction environment, is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to work in Excel at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Knowledge of Jet Reports is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all work.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated interest in growing into broader financial accounting and reporting responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
