Job summary

Sublatus Inc., a Calgary-based environmental and construction contractor, seeks an Accountant to evolve AR and AP, support month-end close, and grow toward a corporate controller role. The role offers exposure to a growing business with a clear path to greater responsibility.

Two+ years of accounting experience, Sage Intacct or similar ERP, and strong Excel/communication skills are required. Hybrid schedule from Calgary.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of accounting experience including AP/AR.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable ERP.
• Hybrid role based in Calgary with the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Build a best-in-class finance function focused on cash flow and automation.
• Manage full-cycle accounts payable: invoicing, coding, approvals, payments, reconciliations.
• Manage full-cycle accounts receivable: invoicing, holdbacks, collections, cash application.
• Maintain AR/AP aging schedules and reconcile sub-ledgers to the GL monthly.
• Execute month-end close tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Support weekly cash flow reporting and forecasting.
• Respond to vendor and client inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Assist the Corporate Controller and Director of Finance on ad hoc projects.

Sublatus Inc. is a Calgary-based environmental and construction heavy-equipment contractor specializing in demolition, construction, and environmental services. We work in energy, mining, government, and land development across Western Canada. We recently implemented Sage Intacct and are actively investing in modernizing our finance function.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Accountant to lead the evolution of our accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. You will have responsibility for executing the full cycle of AR and AP, supporting month-end close, and optimizing processes across the finance team. Our long-term goal is for you to grow into our corporate controller.

This role will suit someone with an understanding of accounting fundamentals who is looking for broad exposure to a growing business and a clear path to greater responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Build a best-in-class finance function that champions cash flow, embraces automation, and provides business intelligence.
• Manage full-cycle accounts payable: invoice intake, coding, approval routing, three-way matching, payment runs, and vendor statement reconciliation.
• Manage full-cycle accounts receivable: client invoicing, holdback tracking and release, collections, and cash application.
• Maintain AR and AP aging schedules and reconcile sub-ledgers to the general ledger monthly.
• Complete assigned month-end close tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Support weekly cash flow reporting and forecasting.
• Respond to vendor and client inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Support the Corporate Controller and Director of Finance on ad hoc projects and analysis.

What You Bring to the Table

• Two or more years of accounting experience, including hands-on accounts payable and/or accounts receivable.
• Champion of AI tools and process automation.
• Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
• Proficiency with Excel and accounting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.
• Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable ERP.
• Experience in construction, oilfield services, or another project-based industry.
