Job Description

The Instrumentation and Electrical Technician inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and / or hydraulic equipment at plant and / or pump stations.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Repair, maintain, install, replace, troubleshoot and diagnose various machinery and mechanical equipment such as centrifuges, pumps, conveyors, hydraulic presses, dewatering presses, belts, fans utilizing hand tools and testing instruments;
  • Inspect completed repairs and recommend appropriate solutions;
  • Perform all work with strict adherence to all applicable safety legislation and procedures;
  • Estimate time and material costs on electrical and mechanical projects;
  • Requisition supplies and materials as required and approved by management;
  • Work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, manuals or verbal instructions and install equipment to diagram specifications;
  • Provide performance feedback to workers to motivate or improve adherence to operating procedures or quality standards;
  • Complete work orders as required and ensure appropriate follow-up communication;
  • Disassemble machines and repair / replace / adjust parts accordingly;
  • Clean and lubricate equipment, parts and machinery;
  • Maintain equipment in proper operating condition;
  • May be required to perform machine operator duties on occasion;
  • Assist co-workers with any questions or issues regarding task completion.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

  • Valid 442A Electrician Licence and / or a Valid 309A Electrician Licence.
  • Dual Tickets, while not required, are valued and holders will receive an additional premium.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a heavy industrial environment, such as water treatment, chemical processing, petrochemicals, cement production, or metal processing.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and servicing all plant equipment in a timely manner.
  • Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable safety legislation.
  • Strong problem solving, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be fluent in English (read, write and speak).
  • Must be deadline oriented, reliable and dependable on start and finish times as it impacts the operations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Must work well with others and possess good hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be comfortable rotating throughout the facility as required.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities : Fast-paced environment, Repetitive tasks, physically demanding, and attention to detail.
  • Transportation / Travel Information : Own transportation.
  • Shifts : Rotating shifts : 6 : 00 AM – 2 : 30 PM and 2 : 00 PM – 10 : 30 PM. Weekend work will be required based on operational needs.
