Job summary

Affirm is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Infra Foundations team, owning the roadmap and driving reliability across a global cloud foundation. You will mentor engineers, manage hiring, and partner with platform and security teams to align priorities and implement scalable, automated provisioning and governance.

The role emphasizes ownership, cross-team collaboration, and a focus on least-privilege access, monitoring, and postmortems as part of a high-reliability organization.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience, with 2+ years of engineering management experience.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in infrastructure, platform engineering, or adjacent domains.
• Strong technical background in cloud-native and infrastructure systems (AWS preferred).
• Experience owning or leading Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Spacelift, or equivalent).
• Experience building and operating infrastructure automation that other teams adopt and depend on.
• Track record of operating services with a high reliability bar (monitoring, on-call, incident response, postmortems).
• Strong programming background (Python, Go, or Kotlin preferred).
• Strong communication and organizational leadership skills, with mentoring experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the vision and multi-quarter roadmap for Infra Foundations.
• Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers and own hiring and growth.
• Partner with engineering leadership to align priorities with goals.
• Own reliability and safety of the foundational layer (AWS provisioning, VPC networking, IAM).
• Drive automation frameworks that enable other infra teams to provision and tear down stacks.
• Steward operational programs like quota management and AMI patching.
• Set SLAs for IAM requests and incident response, with automated validations.
• Collaborate with Security on least-privilege IAM and access governance.
• Promote self-service tooling and knowledge sharing across teams.
