Job summary

The British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) seeks an Indigenous Relations Specialist to build respectful relationships with First Nations leadership and coordinate across BCER.

You will lead initiatives on capacity funding, community engagement, and education programs, support regulatory alignment of laws, and provide expert advice to inform policy and reconciliation efforts with Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Anthropology, Environmental Management, Geography, Indigenous Studies, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5 years of relevant experience.
• Technical diploma in related field with 7 years of relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous groups is required.

Responsibilities

• Proactively develop respectful relationships with First Nations leadership and staff.
• Coordinate First Nations relations activities across the BCER and support multiple priorities.
• Develop and coordinate capacity funding, engagement and education programs.
• Liaise with internal subject matter experts and across departments to deliver projects.
• Monitor projects to ensure consistency with BCER policies and goals.
• Research and develop new approaches to relationship building and legal alignment.
• Prepare written and oral communications for external and internal audiences.
• Identify solutions to complex issues with cross agency implications.
• Represent BCER on provincial committees and working groups when required.
• Perform other related duties or special projects.
