Job summary

BDC is seeking a Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations to strengthen relationships with Indigenous rights-holders, communities and partners across Canada, translating insights into practical guidance that advances BDC’s reconciliation strategy.

Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, you will coordinate engagement, lead initiatives from planning to execution, and provide cultural protocols expertise to colleagues.

Qualifications

• Minimum of seven years of experience in Indigenous relations, community or rights-holder engagement, partnership development, economic development, government relations, reconciliation or a closely related field.
• Direct and respectful engagement with Indigenous rights-holders, communities, Nations, organizations and partners.
• Strong understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit histories, cultures, governance, priorities and protocols.
• Proven program and project management experience with multiple complex initiatives and timelines.
• Excellent written, verbal, facilitation and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Willingness and ability to travel within Canada, including to Indigenous communities.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and sustain trusted relationships with Indigenous rights-holders, communities, Nations, organizations, entrepreneurs, financial institutions and ecosystem partners across Canada.
• Listen to, understand and translate community perspectives into actionable insights and recommendations for BDC teams.
• Lead and coordinate Indigenous relations initiatives from planning through execution with clear milestones and outcomes.
• Represent BDC at community, industry, government and economic-development forums to identify opportunities and ensure commitments.
• Support implementation of BDC’s Reconciliation Strategy with measurable progress; conduct research and benchmark analyses.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on reconciliation, Indigenous engagement and cultural protocols for colleagues.
