Consider this unique opportunity with the Justice Ronald Lester Youth Centre where you will plan, implement, and co-ordinate programs that promote rehabilitation and cultural awareness of Indigenous youth and all young persons.

About the job

In this role, you will :

  • Plan, develop, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate programs to address the specific needs of all youth in relation to their various cultural / Indigenous diversity
  • Coordinate volunteers to assist in the delivery of Indigenous / cultural programs
  • Coordinate spiritual activities for all young persons
  • Perform assessment, reception, and discharge functions for all young persons that are involved with the programs
  • Assist the Youth Centre Deputy Administrator with the formulation of policies and procedures for programs

What you bring to the team

Technical Knowledge

You have :

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply behaviour / social sciences theories, practices, and techniques particularly within the context of planning programs for Indigenous / cultural specific residents
  • Cultural awareness in order to engage Indigenous residents and support rehabilitation and successful community reintegration
  • Ability to understand and apply relevant legislation (e.g. The Criminal Code of Canada, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child and Family Services Act, Education Act, Freedom of Information Act, Public Services of Ontario Act, etc)
  • Ability to ensure programming complies with facility regulations and procedures

Organizational and Leadership Skills

You can :

  • Coordinate programs to ensure best outcomes for the youth, facility, and community
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate programs and supervise staff and volunteers in the delivery of programs

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You can :

  • Liaise with community partners, teach and train staff / community agencies, and participate in case management
  • Interact with youth, their families and community connections, and Indigenous / cultural groups and agencies

Problem-Solving Skills and Judgement

  • You can develop ongoing programming / committees, establish and implement program objectives, and assess the needs of residents
