Job description

ABOUT THE NGN

Our Vision: For every First Nation in what is now commonly called Canada to have the resources necessary to uphold their inherent stewardship responsibilities to the land, ice, and waters in their territories.

Our Mission: To support and connect First Nations Guardians.

The First Nations National Guardians Network (NGN) is a nonprofit fostering stewardship and nationhood through First Nations Guardians initiatives. As the first Indigenous-led national stewardship network in the world, NGN supports Guardians with consistent funding, training, and connection grounded in Indigenous knowledge and values. Guardians engage in vital stewardship work such as wildfire response, climate monitoring, ecosystem restoration, and cultural revitalization.

NGN supports this work by simplifying access to funding, developing responsive programs, and ensuring First Nations Guardians have the resources they need to succeed.

CONTRACT SUMMARY

NGN is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Program and Partner Relations Coordinator for a 6-month contract. Reporting to the Program and Partner Relations Manager, this role supports the day-to-day coordination of NGN’s funding programs and partner engagement activities. The Coordinator will play a key role in keeping projects organized, supporting communication with First Nations and partners, and helping ensure that funding processes and timelines stay on track.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career in program administration, Indigenous partnerships, or nonprofit work - especially someone passionate about Indigenous-led stewardship and community-focused programming.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Coordination: Support the planning, implementation, and tracking of NGN’s funding programs, including the National Guardians Fund, Guardians Exchange Fund, and special initiatives like Wildfire Guardians.

  • Partner Engagement Support: Assist with coordinating meetings, communication, and follow-up with First Nations and partner organizations to support strong relationships and timely program delivery.

  • Administrative Support: Help with scheduling, document preparation, note-taking, and logistics for working groups and adjudication committees.

  • Data and Reporting: Support the collection and organization of data and documentation related to funding activities, timelines, and reporting requirements.

  • Communications: Draft and coordinate program communications, such as emails, updates, and reminders, in collaboration with the program team.

  • Public Events: Provide support for the organization and logistics of events, webinars, or conference participation.

  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with NGN staff and contractors to ensure smooth coordination across departments and projects.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 4–6 times per year for events, meetings, or training (as needed).

REQUIREMENTS
  • 1–3 years of experience in a coordination, program support, or administrative role, preferably in a nonprofit, Indigenous, or government-related environment.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, calendars, online project tools, and virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; clear and respectful communication with a wide range of stakeholders is key.

  • Interest in learning about federal funding programs, Indigenous stewardship, and nonprofit program delivery.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while contributing to a collaborative team.

  • Cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous governance and values.

  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Flexible, remote work arrangements

  • Generous care days and leave policies for contract workers

  • Supportive, inclusive team culture focused on learning and collaboration

  • Meaningful work supporting Indigenous-led conservation and community well-being

  • Potential for contract renewal based on performance and funding availability
