Job summary

ParaMed is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to provide immunization services within the Waterloo-Wellington District. You will collaborate with the local Public Health Unit to immunize staff and homebound clients, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting of vaccines administered.

This full-time fixed-term (6 months) role requires knowledge of vaccine protocols, consent, cold chain management, AEFI monitoring, and data entry in health portals.

Qualifications

• Registration/licensing with provincial regulatory college in good standing
• Experience in delivering community care is an asset
• Willing to travel to see patients in your community

Responsibilities

• Immunizes staff and adults against vaccine preventable disease
• Conducts immunization clinics by assessing immunization needs, transporting vaccines, setting up work stations, obtaining informed consent, preparing and administering injections and observing reactions
• Assures cold chain procedures are followed and records observations, interventions and outcomes
• Submits AEFI reports and documents immunizations in Public Health Unit portal
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and maintains records and statistics
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and partners to support client care and service delivery
• Performs related duties as assigned

Applies knowledge, skills and abilities specific to Vaccine Preventable Disease, Epidemiology, Community Development and Primary Health Care, Healthy Equity and Public Health Ethics. Translates knowledge from health and social sciences to support immunizations through universal and targeted interventions, programs and advocacy.Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates immunization services for ParaMed employees and homebound ParaMed clients. Works in collaboration with the local Public Health Unit, conducts immunization clinics for eligible staff and clients in a variety of settings by assessing needs, establishing informed consent, preparing and administering injections and observing and responding to reactions. Following the ParaMed Immunization Policy and Medical Directives, the Immunization & Public Health Promotion Registered Practical Nurse advises clients of adverse reactions and contraindications and provides after care instructions and related documentation.Submits Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) reporting form to the local Public Health Unit. Completes immunization records and documents immunization administrations utilizing Public Health Unit online portal and local WW District Tracker.
