Job Summary

The HR Manager oversees the HR department's operations, aligning strategies with corporate goals. Responsibilities include developing HR policies, managing programs and budgets, ensuring compliance with Canadian legislation, and playing a key role in organizational leadership, employee relations, workforce development, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). This role requires strong knowledge of payroll, year-end reporting, and employer remittances such as WCB, EHT, and HET.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy : Lead the design and implementation of HR strategies supporting organizational goals.
  • Executive Leadership : Contribute to business strategy as part of the Executive Leadership Team, providing HR insights.
  • Team Management : Manage and develop the HR team, ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Policy Development : Develop and implement HR policies ensuring legal compliance.
  • Talent Management : Oversee recruitment, evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Training & Development : Organize training programs to enhance skills and ensure OHS compliance.
  • Employee Relations : Address conflicts and performance issues to maintain a positive work environment.
  • HR & OHS Compliance : Ensure activities meet legislative and organizational standards.
  • Occupational Health & Safety : Develop and monitor OHS programs, collaborate with JHSC, ensure legal compliance.
  • Budget Oversight : Manage HR budgets efficiently.
  • Advisory Role : Guide management and staff on HR and OHS matters, including payroll and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years at manager level and 3 years as an HR generalist in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CPHR); JHSC certification is a bonus.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment and OHS laws.
  • Experience with employee relations, recruitment, compensation, benefits, and safety programs.
  • Experience with year-end reporting, WCB, EHT, and HET.
  • Proven leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in HR systems and software.

Travel

  • Regular travel within Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
