Position Overview

As a member of the Invest Alberta Corporation (“IAC”) team, reporting to the Chief Corporate Development Officer, the People & Culture (“P&C”) Director will collaborate with team members nationally and internationally to support business activities. You will be responsible for the strategic and operational management and leadership of human resources initiatives, programs, policies, and projects that will enable IAC to meet its goals and objectives. This will be a challenging and exciting opportunity as you will support, coach, and develop team members located around the world.The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of the Alberta value proposition.

Responsibilities

People & Culture

  • As a member of the senior leadership team, collaborate to build plans, fostering an environment that promotes a responsive and strategic approach to achieving organization goals and objectives.
  • Develop comprehensive plans for various P&C initiatives including workforce planning, people development, performance management, and compensation / benefits, among others.
  • Consult, coach, and provide advice to IAC leadership to effectively perform in their roles and manage their teams.
  • Incorporating effective change management strategies to support new initiatives or enhance current program areas.
  • Lead the delivery of P&C projects including HR software and tools, recruitment tools and processes, engagement activities, and professional development, among others.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement incorporating HR metrics, and best practice research.
  • Manage legal compliance globally and address all concerns related to employment law and contracts, anticipating and resolving litigation risk as appropriate.
  • Deliver HR programs supporting the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, development, engagement and retention.
  • Lead, guide, direct, and evaluate the work of the P&C team, supporting them in reaching team and individual objectives.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and training to leaders within the organization.
  • Understand the company’s business model, how to create value, and how change impacts all areas of the organization; be a positive change agent.
  • Actively build and maintain an inviting company culture.
  • Maintaining a strategic view of organizational mandates while ensuring team accountabilities are met.
  • Creation and management of departmental budgets.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resource management.
  • A minimum of 10 years of directly related HR work experience in a professional services or business development firm, and at least 5 years of progressive management and operational leadership experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, and other applicable employment legislation.
  • Experience in a small organization with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Adaptable to changing organizational needs and HR requirements.
  • Progressive management and operational leadership experience.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Adept with technology applications relating to daily tasks.
  • Willingness to work at odd hours to support the international nature of the work.
  • Formal coaching experience is a strong asset.
