Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Support Services, the Human Resources Coordinator performs and is responsible for activities integral to the recruitment, selection, placement, and scheduling of support staff personnel. This position will be the primary contact in ensuring that the posting and filling of support staff positions for the School District is carried out in a manner that is fiscally responsible, timely and in accordance with the Collective agreement. The HR Coordinator is employed in a confidential capacity in matters relating to labour relations.

*This is a term assignment for 18 months*

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating with schools and departments in the creation and closing of all support staff postings.
  • Assisting the Manager, Human Resources in the annual clerical, EA and CYCW entitlement process and managing the resulting bumping, layoff and posting of subsequent positions.
  • Maintaining and updating key information pertaining to support staff including present assignments, staffing history and schedules.
  • Providing advice/information to Principals and Managers regarding internal applicants to support staff postings, staffing entitlements and bumping/layoffs.
  • Processing short and long term leave requests in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Assisting with support staff recruitment, including applicant review, reference checking and interviewing.
  • Managing confidential information and correspondence pertaining to grievances, arbitration, negotiations, personnel and labour relations issues.
  • Providing advice and direction to new staff on Board policies, procedures and benefits.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A diploma or degree in Human Resources and a minimum of 3 years experience working in a Human Resources department in a unionized environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in staffing and recruiting in a large-scale unionized environment is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Highly organized self-starter with the ability to work under pressure in a high volume work environment and maintain attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.
  • Advanced skills in Office 365 and HRIS, with an interest in learning new technologies.

The salary range for this position is $71,538 to $89,422 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
