Brief Overview

The HR Consultant I is a qualified professional who specializes in providing strategic HR advice and solutions to the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan public service. Their role involves leading HR programs and projects, conducting research to identify issues, and formulating strategic plans to address human resource matters. HR Consultant I will assist in recruitment, training, and management of public service employees to help establish control systems and review processes. They stay updated with advancements in the field of Human Resources and ensure HR programs and services comply with established policies and regulations. Additionally, they serve as administrators for several critical human resources functions including recruiting, employee/labor relations, health and safety, compensation, benefits, training, diversity, employee engagement, leave and attendance tracking, time and attendance, and employee records.

Key Responsibilities
  • An HR Consultant I will oversee and manage HR initiatives and projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with government goals and are executed within specified timelines. This position will investigate and analyze HR-related problems, gathering data and insights to identify underlying issues and recommend effective solutions. This position will assist in the recruitment, training, and management of public service employees by supporting the hiring process, facilitating training programs, and managing employee performance to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • The HR Consultant I will establish control systems and review HR processes, developing and implementing mechanisms to monitor HR activities, and regularly optimizing these processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • This role requires compliance with HR policies and regulations and will monitor HR practices to mitigate risks and maintain adherence to legal requirements. This position will also involve administering critical HR functions and workforce management, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, and workforce planning to support government objectives.
  • Facilitate and communicate government policies and programs, ensuring understanding and compliance. Staying updated with labor laws and regulations, the HR Consultant I will ensure HR practices comply with legal standards and address any compliance issues promptly.
  • Providing internal support and partnership to departments and ministries, the position will foster strong relationships and effective communication. Coordination with HR team members to process and maintain employment, attendance, and other records, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

  • Ability to manage HR projects, ensuring successful implementation within specified timelines. This includes planning, executing, and monitoring projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Analytical skills to assess HR processes, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations. This involves using data to inform decisions and improve HR practices.
  • Effective collaboration with HR teams, department and ministerial leaders, and external stakeholders to achieve HR objectives. This requires building strong relationships and working effectively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of employment laws and regulations to ensure HR practices comply with legal requirements. This involves staying up to date with changes in labor laws and ensuring that HR policies and practices adhere to these regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized HR association (e.g., CPHR) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant HR experience.

  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation
  • This position will need to travel >20% of the time.
  • Physical requirements for this position require greater than 50% of the time sitting.
