Position Summary
BCIT’s Human Resources team is seeking a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE ) Human Resources Business Partner. As a strategic and trusted partner, the HR Business Partner will provide HR advisory, coaching, and consultation services that address all aspects of effective people management practices. This position builds strategic, collaborative partnerships with business leaders in designated client groups; engages in development and delivery of a wide range of employee programs, and provides expertise in recruitment processes. In addition, the HR Business Partner promotes an effective employee/labour environment through proactive and collaborative discussions and problem-solving; and helps client groups design and implement work processes to achieve school/department’s outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Supports the Manager, Human Resources by participating in development and implementation of effective people management strategies, practices, standards, and initiatives in generalist areas, such as labour relations, workforce planning, coaching, succession planning, performance management, training and development, and recruitment and selection.
- Works with other members of the HR advisory team, and proactively engages with all other HR functions in the collaborative and integrated delivery of programs and services.
- Provides strategic HR advisory, coaching, and consultation services that address all aspects of effective people management practices. Builds strategic, collaborative partnerships with business leaders in designated client groups, and supports their development of people management skills.
- Provides counsel and coaching services to support employees in establishing and meeting their professional and personal development objectives. Provides information and explanations to support employees’ understanding of HR programs and services.
- Counsels and coaches selection committees on staffing options, recruitment practices, and innovative attraction techniques, and actively participates in selection processes.
- Promotes an effective employee/labour environment by facilitating productive, collaborative discussions between management, employees, unions, and other stakeholders. Takes action to mitigate / resolve grievances and manage complex issues through to successful conclusion. Supports the labour relations team throughout conflict resolution and other sensitive processes.
- Develops reports and presentations to keep the Manager, Human Resources informed of employee program and advisory service achievements, and alerted to emerging issues.
- Carries out research of best practices, internal and external trends and methods to support the Manager, Human Resources in continuous optimization of employee programs, services and initiatives.
- Participates as a member of various task teams, committees, and initiatives, providing advice and contributing expertise in people management practices.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources ( CPHR ) designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an HR generalist with emphasis on delivery of programs and advisory services in unionized environments.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Solid knowledge of the concepts, theories, practices and techniques of workforce planning, succession planning, talent acquisition/recruitment, retention, diversity, career management, performance management, labour relations and recognition.
- Solid knowledge of the relevant employment, labour, and human rights legislation.
- Advanced communication skills, using diplomacy, influence, nuance and assertiveness to achieve objectives depending on situation.
- Advanced relationship management skills with the ability to build productive, collaborative partnerships between management, employees, unions, and other internal/external stakeholders.
- Advanced communication skills with excellent listening, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Solid ability to work with considerable independence, initiative and discretion.
- Advanced analytical skills and ability to apply sound judgment in problem-solving, evaluating courses of action, creative solutions while making decisions on employment and labour matters.
- Proficiency with standard office systems and applications.

Salary Range $91,425 - $125,709, with a control point of $114,281 per annum.
