Job summary

Confidential is seeking an Human Resources Advisor in Edmonton to align HR strategies with business goals and engage employees and management. The role collaborates across HR to provide value-driven support and manages employee and labour relations within the unit.

You will counsel local stakeholders, guide HR matters for salaried and unionized staff, and lead labour relations initiatives, including grievances and joint committee activities.

Qualifications

  • Oversee disability management, including long-term and short-term disability files.
  • Coordinate investigations ensuring alignment with the collective agreement.

Job description

This Human Resources Advisor role is dedicated to aligning HR strategies with overall business goals while engaging closely with employees and management within the business unit. The position fosters collaboration across HR functions to provide value-driven support to management and associates, ensuring alignment with the organization’s objectives. Additionally, the role will be actively involved in employee and labour relations initiatives in Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic, effective counsel to local stakeholders, driving continuous improvement across all areas of the Human Resources function.
  • Deliver expert guidance and support on all human resources matters for diverse client groups, including salaried and hourly/unionized employees.
  • Introduce, enhance, and implement best-practice methodologies to strengthen employee and labour relations.
  • Coach and train supervisors and hourly employees on Human Resources processes and policies to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Compile and analyze monthly reports, offering actionable recommendations to Regional and Corporate stakeholders.
  • Foster and maintain constructive relationships with unions representing hourly employees.
  • Lead Joint Labor Committee meetings and actively participate in grievance resolution processes.
  • Engage proactively in national HR cycles and reconciliation activities, including performance management, succession planning, salary planning, and goal setting.
  • Complete Ocloud transactions, reports, and audits for clients as required.
  • Support recruitment and selection processes for both hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Develop and manage employee onboarding and offboarding programs within client groups in Langley.
  • Handle employee relations, including complaints, dispute resolution, terminations, settlements, and engagement initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and training to salaried employees and supervisors on HR matters such as hiring and selection, performance management, employment legislation, conflict resolution, policies and procedures, as well as WCB and disability management including return-to-work programs.
  • Oversee short-term and long-term disability claim files, coordinating with disability service providers.
  • Assist management with labour relations, including grievances, arbitrations, and collective bargaining preparation.
  • Conduct thorough investigations ensuring decisions align with the Collective Agreement and established practices, including managing suspension and discharge meetings when necessary.
  • Investigate harassment and human rights complaints, initiate appropriate follow-up actions, and advise management accordingly.
  • Undertake other HR assignments and projects as needed to support business objectives.
Experience & Education:
  • In-depth knowledge of HR trends, best practices, and legislation, including applicable Canadian employment law, Human Rights, and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations
  • Exceptional verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities with proven experience in planning, prioritizing, and successfully managing large-scale projects, while applying effective problem-solving and timely decision-making
  • Proven skill in managing sensitive, complex, and high-pressure situations with professionalism and discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced with HRIS systems and reporting, with a preference for Ocloud
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency, competitive drive, and effective leadership qualities
  • Post-secondary education in Business or Human Resources, complemented by relevant experience, is required.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Human Resources generalist is required, including experience in unionized settings, preferably in a fast paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Completion of, or progress towards, a CHRP designation is considered an asset.

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. This range does not include discretionary bonus eligibility or our comprehensive benefits program. Compensation offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors, including geographic location, experience, education, skills, and overall qualifications.
