Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Toronto District is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Student for a 4- or 8-month internship starting January 2027.

This hands-on role supports the HSE team on a Canadian Buildings Division project, offering real-world experience in safety management. You will assist with inspections, document control, new-employee orientation, training materials, and reviewing safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to implement HSE program elements and safe operating procedures.
• Knowledge of environmental requirements and compliant systems.
• Ability to plan preventative measures to reduce exposure to hazards.
• Ability to determine the cause of an incident, and to initiate and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist the HSE Professional with inspections and incidental investigations.
• Manage documents (data entry, SMC entries, taking minutes, filing etc.).
• Assist with the orientation of new employees.
• Develop training materials.
• Review safety paperwork (PSI, tailgate meetings, safework procedures, trend analysis).
• Monitor and maintain the environmental program.
• Follow PCL and local legislative requirements.
• Analyze site-specific trends and incidents and report findings to district.
• Gather/review/distributing safety-related statistics.
• Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce.

We are seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Student, for our Toronto District, within our Canadian Buildings Division that is available for 4 month or 8 months starting January 2027.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the orientation of new employees

• Recognizing and following PCL and local legislative requirements
• Analyzing site-specific trends and incidents and reporting findings to district
• Gathering/reviewing/distributing safety-related statistical information
• Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce

Qualifications

• Knowledge of environmental requirements and the ability to implement systems which meet compliance
• Ability to plan and employ preventative measures to reduce the risks of exposure to hazards
• The ability to determine the cause of an incident, and to initiate and implement corrective action to prevent the likelihood of reoccurrence
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong willingness to learn

The estimated hourly range for this role is $21.37- $31.33, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
