Qualifications

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

As a Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist, you will play a critical role in creating, implementing, and continuously improving health and safety programs within our manufacturing plant. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and functionally to the Director of Health, Safety & Environment, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. This position requires a strong on-the-floor presence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks throughout the facility.
  • Implement and advise on hazard control programs for the plant.
  • Proactively apply safety standards to reduce hazards and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Stay informed about legislative changes and recommend necessary actions.
  • Support the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct safety evaluations, self-audits, and facilitate site safety committees.
  • Lead safety training sessions for employees.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
  • Guide managers and supervisors on incident reporting and investigations.
  • Review incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain training records and facilitate safety training sessions.
  • Develop and implement written EHS programs aligned with jurisdictional requirements.
  • Ensure regular safety and environmental inspections are completed and improvements are recommended.
  • Support workers’ compensation processes, interface with insurance and medical professionals, and assist injured workers.
  • Manage the plant’s health and safety budget.
  • Facilitate safety onboarding for new hires.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years of HSE experience in manufacturing or construction.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and SharePoint.
  • Technical writing skills for adult learning materials.
  • Dedicated to health, safety, and environmental sustainability.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation.
