Health, Safety and Environment Specialist

Join to apply for the Health, Safety and Environment Specialist role at Hamilton Kent.

The HSE Specialist coordinates the implementation and maintenance of management systems for the health, safety, and environmental programs. Responsibilities include proposing strategies, planning implementation, providing training, and monitoring progress.

The successful candidate will perform safety observations, assist stakeholders, coordinate risk management, support safe work practices, and promote safety culture. The role also involves facilitating internal audits to ensure legal and corporate compliance.

  • Lead the implementation of HSE programs, adapting them to local needs, and create site-specific procedures, training, and work instructions.
  • Drive HSE activities and increase engagement in programs and best practices.
  • Conduct gap analysis and develop action plans.
  • Ensure compliance through audits.
  • Support investigations into non-conformances, incidents, and environmental releases, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Report incidents to relevant authorities and monitor claims.
  • Support Health and Safety committees.
  • Assist cross-functional teams in implementing controls and tools to enhance compliance and performance, reviewing changes to equipment and work practices.
  • Create and maintain site-specific HSE manuals, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Support environmental compliance reporting and track KPIs.
  • Review and update hazardous materials programs and training.
  • Escalate relevant issues to HSE BP as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Certificates

  • Technical Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety; a university degree is preferred.
  • CRSP/CRST, CSP, or equivalent certifications are assets.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in HSE.
  • Minimum 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a unionized setting is mandatory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including training skills.
  • Strong computer skills and technical aptitude.
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels.
