Human Resources Manager

Our client is searching for a Human Resources Manager to join their team. This role will be responsible for overseeing and supporting various human resources activities, including full-cycle recruitment and onboarding, employee related changes, benefits administration, and specific HR projects. A successful candidate will be motivated to grow within the company and will be in charge of a team of 3-5 junior staff members. This role reports directly to the Associate Director of Human Resources.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  1. Manage and provide direction to the Human Resources team, ensuring tasks are completed according to projected timelines and adhere to the best practice values, priorities, and guiding principles presented by the company.
  2. Oversee and support recruitment and onboarding activities for multiple departments, maintaining an understanding of the unique needs and functions of each department.
  3. Oversee offboarding processes, employee related changes, benefits administration, and various other HR functions, including but not limited to performance management, grievances, compensation management, and health and safety, as required or assigned.
  4. Collaborate with the Human Resources leadership team on the creation or revision of HR policies, processes and procedures to ensure the practices remain competitive.
  5. Ensure proper maintenance of Human Resources Information Systems and personnel files are in compliance with the applicable legislation as well as company policies and procedures.
  6. Research and stay abreast on compliance requirements, employment legislation, and industry best practices as it relates to HR processes, including varying requirements of different departments/sectors.
  7. Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of Human Resources projects and initiatives.
  8. Liaise with departmental leadership to determine key areas requiring HR support.
  9. Draft, review, and edit various documents, including memoranda, correspondence, briefings, proposals, letters, and other employment and recruitment related documentation.
  10. Assist in the management of operational and fiscal activities, including developing and implementing work plans and forecasting within a designated budget.
  11. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including service providers, internal departments, affiliates, and community.
  12. Maintain a high level of political awareness, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Perform supervisory duties, including hiring and training staff, building staff capacity, delegating tasks, and conducting performance reviews.
  14. Mentor team members through feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations, and provide effective leadership to the team.
  15. Participate in department and community events, as required.
  16. Other duties as required or assigned.
Your strengths include:
  1. Post-secondary degree in Human Resources is required.
  2. 3+ years of leadership experience, including leading a team of direct reports.
  3. 5+ years in a Human Resources role is required.
  4. Experience with work plans, budgets, and drafting processes, policies and procedures.
  5. Recruitment experience in varying industries or fields of work is an asset.
  6. Experience working in an Indigenous and/or non-profit setting is an asset.
  7. Strong knowledge of applicable employment legislation and the ability to read and interpret legislation.
  8. Strong leadership skills with recognized strength in leading and engaging teams and creating a culture that promotes the development of individual and organizational capacity.
