Job summary

The Salvation Army Housing Specialist will assist chronically homeless individuals and families in York Region to obtain and maintain suitable housing through CTI-based case management via phone or home visits.

You will engage landlords, coordinate housing options, and provide ongoing supports including rent guidance, transportation, and advocacy to help participants achieve housing stability and regain independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work preferred.
• College diploma in Social Sciences field required at minimum.
• Experience with chronically homeless populations is preferred.
• Knowledge of Mental Health/Addictions.
• Commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and equity.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Research and maintain housing options and acceptance criteria.
• Liaise with landlords regarding vacancies.
• Provide housing placement statistics.
• Coordinate housing assessments and CTI-based case management.
• Assist participants with applications for social supports (Ontario Works/ODSP).
