Job summary

Johnson Controls in Canada seeks an O&M Stationary Engineer/Building Operator responsible for maintenance and repair of hospital infrastructure equipment, including central plant and mechanical rooms. Reports to Operations Manager, guided by Chief Engineer under safety regulations.

You will operate boilers, HVAC units, pumps; inspect pipes; log readings; perform chemical tests; after-hours maintenance; participate in safety training; support snow removal; ensure PPE; work with staff and patients.

Qualifications

• 4th Class Stationary Engineer or above.
• Graduate of a trade or vocational school is an asset (Electrician, Plumber, Gasfitter).
• Graduate of a Building Operators Technician course is preferred.
• Previous experience in a large institution working with HVAC, Med Gas, Life Safety systems, and other infrastructure equipment.
• Excellent communication skills when dealing with staff and patients.
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instruction.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain all mechanical equipment such as steam boilers, generators, HVAC units and other related building equipment and systems.
• Inspect, install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and maintain heating, water and drainage systems.
• Record readings from equipment in the logbook.
• Perform chemical tests on boilers, heating, water softeners, and apply chemicals as needed.
• Clean and change filters as required.
• Perform inspections and minor repair duties in patient rooms and Operating Rooms and mechanical rooms.
• Perform daily or nightly rounds of equipment and systems and record readings on the rounds cards.
• Clean, lubricate, and check belts, steam traps, and pumps.
• Perform maintenance after hours and on weekends when the Facility Maintenance Department is closed.
• Participate in departmental training programs including Lock Out/Tag Out and Safety Toolbox talks.
