Job summary

BayCare Health System is seeking a Histologist to oversee the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for diagnostic review in St. Joseph’s Hospital. The role involves maintaining laboratory standards and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, be ASCP Certified, and possess laboratory-related experience. The position offers flexible PRN scheduling along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Histotechnology program or related technical training is preferred.
• Laboratory-related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of tissue processing from fixation through final slide preparation.
• Perform embedding, sectioning, staining, and special histology techniques.
• Maintain laboratory files, records, and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Monitor and restock laboratory supplies to support workflow needs.
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance across all histology processes.
• Support timely preparation of specimens for diagnostic use.

• Facility: BayCare Health System, Pathology Services – SJH
• Shift: Days | 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Hours Vary)
• Schedule: PRN | On-site

Role Overview

As a Histologist, you will be responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens to support accurate diagnostic review. You will oversee all phases of tissue processing, maintain laboratory standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of tissue processing from fixation through final slide preparation
• Perform embedding, sectioning, staining, and special histology techniques
• Maintain laboratory files, records, and documentation required by regulatory agencies
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments
• Monitor and restock laboratory supplies to support workflow needs
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance across all histology processes
• Support timely preparation of specimens for diagnostic use
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience

• Laboratory‑related experience (Preferred)

Licensure / Certification

• ASCP Certified Histotechnician (HT) (Required)
