Role Overview

The Aquatics Supervisor shares responsibility for ensuring service excellence in all Aquatic Program spaces, supervising and ensuring the safe operation of these programs in compliance with YMCA regulations, National YMCA standards, Provincial Standards (health regulation 565), and SAM expectations.

This role provides leadership to programs including: Child, Youth, and Adult YMCA Learn to Swim, Youth Leadership, and Adult programming. The position supervises Aquatic Lifeguards/Instructors, conducts staff orientations, and organizes staff training.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide leadership to all Aquatics areas, including the YMCA Swim Program and Junior Lifeguard Program, ensuring quality service to members.
  2. Recruit, train, and coach YMCA staff and volunteers involved in Aquatics programs.
  3. Monitor safety and respond immediately to safety concerns.
  4. Conduct audits for compliance with YMCA standards.
  5. Develop and monitor membership services in assigned areas, adhering to SAM and EYE standards.
  6. Act as Pool Operator as per Ontario Health Regulations 565.
  7. Lead AED, First Aid, and CPR training for staff, volunteers, and participants.
  8. Ensure safety of members, property, and staff, including stock management of First-Aid supplies.
  9. Support the staff team as Service Leader, representing the YMCA professionally.
  10. Promote YMCA philanthropic initiatives, connecting with families and encouraging contributions of time or funds.
  11. Value volunteer partnerships and incorporate philanthropy and volunteerism in community interactions.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation Leadership, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years instructing and supervisory experience
  • National Lifeguarding Service Award
  • Recognized Swim Instructor Qualification (Red Cross, LSS)
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification (asset)
  • Aquatic Supervisory Training (asset)
  • Instructor/Examiner qualifications (asset)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
