Job description

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare food items for customers as requested, including special requests, in a timely and consistent manner.
  2. Determine food and supply needs based on rotating menus.
  3. Inspect food products and supplies as needed.
  4. Ensure work environment and stations are clean and sanitized.
  5. Check food before it is served to customers.
  6. Control and minimize waste.
  7. Comply with outlined safety regulations and procedures.
  8. Prepare ingredients by following recipes; slicing, cutting, chopping, mincing, stirring, whipping, and mixing ingredients; adding seasonings; verifying taste; and plating meals.
  9. Complete hot meal preparation by grilling, sautéing, roasting, frying, and broiling ingredients and assembling and refrigerating cold ingredients.
  10. Coordinate daily food supply inventory for cafeteria and submit order to supervisor.
  11. Assist with receipt of deliveries.
  12. Contribute to daily, holiday, and theme menus in collaboration with supervisor.
  13. Ensure smooth operation of cafeteria services during the absence of supervisor.
  14. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, food storage, and work areas.
  15. Complete cleaning according to daily and weekly schedules and dishwashing/pot washing as needed.
  16. Assist with orienting new employees to their work area.
  17. Listen to customer complaints and suggestions and resolve complaints.
  18. Implement suggestions within the parameters of position and refer more complex concerns to supervisor.
  19. Instruct personnel in the use of new equipment and cleaning methods and provide efficient and effective methods of maintaining work area.
  20. Participate in and/or contribute to programs, committees, or projects designed to improve quality of service and employee productivity.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Minimum two (2) years of hospital, institutional, or restaurant cooking experience to include food preparation.
  2. Current food handler’s card and other certification as required by federal/state/local law.
  3. Familiarity with point-of-sale computers and software.
  4. Comfortable using a computer, navigating Windows, Microsoft Office, and Outlook Email.
  5. High school diploma or GED.
