Job summary

Emterra Group is seeking a GIS and Route Planning Analyst to enhance fleet operations and route optimization. The role focuses on creating efficient driver-friendly routes using GIS tools and data collection across Canada, based in Peel or Kitchener.

The successful candidate will analyze route data, maintain GIS databases, and report on KPIs while collaborating with operations teams. A recent GIS/related program graduate with GIS experience is ideal.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate from a post-secondary GIS, Geography, Planning, or related program.
  • Minimum of 1 year's practical experience using GIS software.
  • Strong understanding of routing, mapping, and GIS principles.
  • Experience in a technical position or work experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and advanced understanding of MS Office Suite and GIS software.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work well with teams as well as independently; and
  • Ability and desire to think outside of the box.

Responsibilities

  • Source, implement, and utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) software to create and optimize collection routes for maximum productivity.
  • On road/route observations of collection routes.
  • Analyze fleet/hauling operations including driver and routing efficiency, time and motion studies, and cost saving improvements.
  • Analyze data collected on the routes and add to existing database for various areas.
  • Ensure routes are 'driver-friendly', efficient, and safe.
  • Create digital and hard copy route maps that are 'driver-friendly'.
  • Maintain current and accurate route files, maps, and statistics.
  • Review and report on KPIs.
  • Convert Excel Data into shapefiles (Georeferencing).
  • Collecting GIS data from various open data sources
  • Create, maintain and/or modify existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases.

The position of GIS and Route Planning Analyst will work with Emterra's operations teams, to enhance current and future fleet/hauling operations, focusing on route optimization and asset utilization. The successful candidate will be required to travel within Canada for data collection purposes and the position will be based out of our Peel or Kitchener location.

Wage - $70,000 - $75,000/year
