Job summary

WSP Canada in Fort McMurray, Alberta, seeks an Intermediate Geotechnical Technician for the Field Services - Major Projects team within Ground Engineering. You will support geotechnical field programs, drilling, instrumentation installation, and slope studies on major oil sands projects.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on fieldwork, and developing technical expertise in geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.

Qualifications

Diploma in Geological, Construction, or Civil Engineering Technology.
Minimum 3 years of relevant geotechnical or field services experience.
Hands-on geotechnical drilling and instrumentation installation experience.
Experience in Alberta Oil Sands is an asset.

Responsibilities

Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring site-specific HSE policies and standard operating procedures are consistently followed
Monitor geotechnical drilling programs, instrumentation installations, and core sample recovery activities
Classify soil and bedrock samples and perform field testing of soils, bedrock, and groundwater
Install and maintain geotechnical instrumentation supporting slope stability and foundation investigations
Collect readings from geotechnical instruments such as inclinometers, ShapeAccelArrays (SAA), and vibrating wire instruments
Validate and document construction monitoring activities including subgrade, foundation, and pile inspections
Compile accurate field data, maintain detailed records, and communicate findings through clear verbal and written correspondence
