Job summary

WSP in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a Junior Geologist or Geological Technologist with oil sands core logging experience to join our Field Services team. You will support geotechnical and geological investigations across Alberta, developing hands-on expertise in fieldwork and interpretation under the guidance of experienced professionals.

The role requires a minimum of two years' relevant experience, a passion for field investigations, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• University degree in Geology or related discipline, or Geological Technology Diploma.
• Minimum of 2 years of geological or geotechnical field experience.
• Oil sands core logging experience with McMurray Formation is a strong asset.
• Geotechnical drilling experience with various drilling techniques is an asset.
• Experience in Alberta's Oil Sands region is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to prepare technical documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a field environment.
• Certified Standard First Aid Level C with AED and related certifications are assets.
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Promote safety by following site-specific HSE policies.
• Support geological investigations and field programs.
• Perform detailed core logging of bedrock including McMurray Formation.
• Complete geological interpretation, data analysis, and modelling.
• Prepare technical documents and field records accurately.
• Monitor geotechnical drilling investigations using various methods.
• Classify soil samples and conduct field testing.
• Compile field data and coordinate project activities.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors and clients.
• Represent WSP in the field with professionalism.
