Job summary

WSP in Alberta is seeking a Geotechnical/Materials Technician to perform field and laboratory testing on soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates. You will support critical infrastructure projects across the province, including out‑of‑town assignments, while gaining hands‑on technical experience outdoors.

This role involves recording data accurately, traveling to project sites, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable results that inform engineering decisions.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Geotechnical related field.
• Experience in field and lab testing of soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates.
• Knowledge of CSA and ASTM testing standards.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Field and laboratory testing on asphalt pavements, concrete, aggregates, and soils.
• Support major construction and infrastructure projects across Alberta.
• Prepare inspection reports and data entry.
• Follow WSP’s Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies.
• Construction monitoring of roads, pads, buildings, etc.
• Geotechnical instrumentation reading.
• Field concrete testing and field compaction testing.
• Laboratory work: sieve analysis, proctors, cylinder breaking, CSA calibrations, moisture contents, asphalt.
• Maintain orderliness of laboratory.
