McElhanney is offering a four-month summer internship in 2027 at our Kamloops branch, providing hands-on experience in both field and office settings. You will be mentored by industry professionals and work across geomatics projects.

You will gain exposure to field operations, data processing, drones, and 3D laser scanning while developing essential professional skills in a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Technology, Surveying, GIS, Geospatial, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or related.
• Willing to travel and work outdoors in varied settings and conditions.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Assist with GNSS RTK, static measurements, and total station surveys.
• Prepare survey files, plans, and data for project delivery with Project Managers.
• Research plans, titles, documents, and related geospatial information.
• Maintain, clean, monitor, and report equipment and vehicles.
• Work in field and office environments in Kamloops and surrounding sites.
• Learn about drones and 3D laser scanning technologies.
• Follow safety practices to meet client needs and Think Safe, Work Safe, Get Home Safe.

Our interns work with multidisciplinary teams to apply what they’ve learned in school and assist with project delivery in Surveying and Geomatics. From field operations to office‑based data processing, you’ll develop the skills and training necessary to solve real‑world problems.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in the use of GNSS receivers for RTK, static measurements, and total stations.
• Work closely with Project Managers to prepare survey files, plans, and data for project delivery.
• Research plans, titles, documents, and related geospatial information.
• Maintain, clean, monitor, and report the condition of equipment and vehicles.
• Work in both office and field environments across Kamloops, BC and surrounding project sites, gaining exposure to a variety of geomatics projects.
• Learn about and operate emerging technologies, including drones, 3D laser scanning, and other advanced geomatics equipment.
• Participate in McElhanney’s industry‑leading safety practices to meet and exceed client needs, ensuring that our teams \"Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe.

Practice Areas You’ll Focus On

Your experience will focus primarily on surveying and geomatics, with opportunities to build practical field and office skills while supporting real‑world projects. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll contribute to survey data collection, processing, and project delivery using modern geomatics technology.

• Surveying & Geomatics: Support field surveys and office‑based geomatics work for infrastructure, land development, and other projects.
• Survey Data & Project Delivery: Assist with collecting, processing, and preparing survey data, plans, and project files.

What You’ll Bring

• Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Technology, Surveying, GIS, Geospatial, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• Ability to work in a variety of outdoor settings including wilderness/backcountry environments for extended periods with varied hours.
• A willingness and ability to travel and work out of town.
• Able to work in on busy sites with varied terrain and ability to lift equipment.
• Previous work experience working in outdoors environments is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail, good judgement, and clear communication skills.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $22 – $28 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
