McElhanney in Calgary is seeking Geomatics/Survey New Graduates to join the Major Projects team on outdoor, site-based assignments. You’ll gain hands-on experience across field and office environments, supporting large-scale projects alongside experienced professionals.

You’ll be exposed to surveying and geomatics work across complex environments, using industry-leading technology while building practical skills quickly. This is a safety-focused, fast-paced role with travel.

• Diploma or Degree in Geomatics Engineering (completed or near completion).
• Genuine interest in field-based, hands-on work.
• Willingness to travel and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Support field crews using GNSS receivers for RTK, RTN, static measurements, and total stations.
• Work with Project Managers to prepare survey files, maps, and data for delivery.
• Research plans, titles, records, and other geospatial information.
• Maintain, monitor, and report on the condition of survey equipment and vehicles.
• Work across field and office environments on major project sites, including travel.
• Learn and operate drones, 3D laser scanning, and unmanned survey equipment.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for Geomatics/Survey graduates who want to be outdoors, on active project sites, and learning by doing. As a Geomatics (Survey) New Graduate with our Major Projects team at McElhanney, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across field and office environments, supporting large-scale projects alongside experienced professionals based in Calgary. This opportunity is anticipated to start is Summer 2027, with flexibility for a post‑graduation start date depending on candidate availability.

You’ll be exposed to a wide range of surveying and geomatics work across complex, fast-paced project environments, using industry‑leading technology while building practical skills quickly. What You’ll Do

As part of our Major Projects Geomatics team, you’ll:

• Support field crews using GNSS receivers for RTK, RTN, static measurements, and total stations.
• Work closely with Project Managers to prepare survey files, maps, and data for project delivery.
• Research plans, titles, records, and other geospatial information.
• Maintain, monitor, and report on the condition of survey equipment and vehicles.
• Work across both field and office environments on major project sites, including urban, remote, and travel-based assignments.
• Learn and operate emerging technologies such as drones, 3D laser scanning, and unmanned survey equipment.
• Participate in McElhanney’s industry‑leading safety practices, ensuring teams Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe.
• Expect early starts, active days, and plenty of time outdoors.

What You’ll Bring

• A Diploma or Degree in Geomatics Engineering (completed or near completion).
• A genuine interest in field‑based, hands‑on work.
• Physical ability to work on active sites, varied terrain, and lift equipment.
• Willingness to work outdoors for extended periods in sometimes remote environments.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and clear communication skills.
• Previous outdoor, field, construction, or labour experience is an asset.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $77,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
