Responsibilities

• Gain exposure to a variety of geomatics projects and technologies while working with professionals in our Calgary office.
• Support surveys across Southern Alberta including legal, topographic, control, construction, municipal, and land development surveys.
• Assist with field data collection, site measurements, and as-built surveys to support infrastructure projects.
• Work with GNSS, total stations, drones, and 3D laser scanning to gather data and contribute to project delivery.

The Opportunity

McElhanney is looking for Geomatics Interns to join our Calgary branch starting in May 2027. This 4, 8, or 12-month internship is an opportunity to explore the direction you want to take your career while gaining hands‑on experience in both field and office settings. You’ll work alongside experienced survey and geomatics professionals, connect with industry mentors, and be part of a cohort of talented students across Canada.

Our interns work with multidisciplinary teams to apply what they’ve learned in school and assist with project delivery in Surveying and Geomatics. From field operations to office‑based data processing, you’ll develop the skills and training necessary to solve real‑world problems while gaining exposure to the latest geomatics technologies and industry best practices.

This role offers the opportunity to gain practical experience across a variety of geomatics projects while building technical skills, professional confidence, and meaningful relationships with colleagues and mentors. What You’ll Do

As part of your internship, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of geomatics projects and technologies while working alongside experienced professionals in our Calgary office.

• Surveying & Geomatics: Support legal, topographic, control, construction, municipal, transportation, and land development surveys throughout Southern Alberta.
• Construction Survey & Layout: Assist with project layout, site measurements, as‑built surveys, and field data collection supporting infrastructure and development projects.
• Geomatics Technology & Remote Sensing: Gain hands‑on experience using GNSS equipment, total stations, drones, 3D laser scanning, and other advanced surveying technologies.
• Field Operations: Work in a variety of environments, including urban developments, transportation corridors, and construction sites, while developing practical field skills and safety awareness.

What You’ll Bring

• Currently enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Technology, Surveying, or a related discipline.
• Interest in field‑based work.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Periods of working out of town for 1-2 weeks at a time.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or ability to obtain one prior to the start of employment.

What Can We Offer You?

The wage range for this position is $22 - $28 per hour.
